Coming Going

Coming Going Articulate project space 2017 (used clothing, plain

cotton, dowels) Photo: Silversalt Photography

This installation consisted of 14 hanging pieces using clothing and plain cotton. Partially folded, the shirts and pants hang to form vertical figure-columns like Caryatids parading through the space. The clothes, some were mine, others donated by friends, reflect a passion for travel: a blue Kameez from Gujarat; linen shirts from Arizona; The Thai fisherman’s pants evoke images of men with brown torsos in brilliant colours against the turquoise sea but were actually made for tourists in Bali. Walking through the space the pieces together created fields of colour which changed from one viewing position to another. Alternately each piece is an individual colour composition and can be viewed on its own.
